Arbitrators
A private third party appointed to resolve the dispute between the parties in the arbitral procedure is called as an arbitrator. Because the arbitral procedure is conducted as the single-level trial system, the arbitrators issuing the arbitral decisions require the capacity to issue legal decisions like the court's judges as well as expert knowledge to understand the substantive trading relationships. The term of arbitrators is 3 years. Once every year, we evaluate the arbitrators that are subject to reappointment to determine whether to reappoint them and we appoint new arbitrators by evaluating the arbitrator candidates. There is no separate qualification test for arbitrators in Korea and the deliberation committee evaluates their experience, academic qualification, and expertise among others.
Criteria for Arbitrator Appointment

Legal field
A person with at least 10 years of legal experiences

Industrial field
A person with at least 10 years of practical work experiences and worked as an executive for at least 3 years in a listed company or 5 years in an unlisted company, worked at a professional job post for at least 15 years or worked with the top qualification in the relevant sector for at least 5 years

Academic field
A person who worked as an university professor for at least 5 years and with a PhD degree for at least 5 years

Public and other expert organizations
A person who worked in the relevant expert sector as an executive or with a PhD degree for at least 5 years or with a Masters degree for at least 10 years in the relevant organization

Certified accountant and patent attorney, etc.
A person who acquired the qualification of certified accountant, patent attorney, tax accountant, or customs broker, etc. and worked in the field for at least 5 years

Foreigner residing in Korea
A person who is qualified as a foreign lawyer, professor, a person who worked as an executive or representative / CEO of a foreign trading company in Korea or trading-related organization, or a person who worked at a professional job post for at least 10 years
